This year (2017) I set a New Year's Resolution that I actually kept! SUUUPER proud of this one... it was to read more. Below are some of the books i've enjoyed this year, and I hope you do too!
1. The Identicals - Elin Hilderbrand
The ultimate beach read. This fiction novel focuses on twin sisters who have been estranged for years until their father dies and they are forced to reconnect. It's full of love, soul searching, comedy and joy. It's an easy read (although there are 400 pages - but you'll be glad because you'll want to keep reading) and great for your summer travels.
2. I Had A Nice Time And Other Lies - The Betches
What is a book list without the Betches? This sarcastic view on dating and life in your twenties while battling the 21st century is hysterical. It's an easy read, and there will be many parts you'll relate to (if you're anything like me). This is great to make your girlfriends read too so you can discuss, like a vintage "book club".
3. It's Not Okay - Andi Dorfman
Calling all Bachelor fans!! As many of you know, Andi is the best, and totally challenges the typical "bachelorette" (along with Kaitlyn - shout out!). This book is all the inside info you could ever want to know. Not only does she share what happened between her and Josh after the cameras left, but she shares some behind the scenes info about production and The Bachelor show as well. Read this one in 3 days all while in the pool in Mexico - highly recommend if you're into this sort of thing.
4. Talking As Fast As I Can - Lauren Graham
As a lover of Gilmore Girls, and Parenthood I knew I had to read this one. Lauren is so real, and relatable while being so cool and funny... you'll end the book wishing you were just like her. I'll admit, I listened to this one on my 8 hour drive back from San Francisco, and it was really nice to hear Lauren read her book. Hearing the words with her inflections and humor were the icing on the cake to this one. If you're looking to get into audio books, this is a great one to start with.
5. Wildflower - Drew Barrymore
Speaking of audio books, I listed to this one too... (is that cheating? Bc it's really not exactly "reading" - oh well TBD). Drew reads her autobiography, and shares inside information not only about her career, films, love, and company but also about trying to navigate Hollywood while she was emancipated at 14 years old. She's genuine, and sweet, and you'll want to watch every Drew Barrymore + Adam Sandler flick all over again. DOWNLOAD THIS BABY TODAY.
6. (+ 6.5) The Second Life of Nick Mason + Exit Strategy - Steve Hamilton
Oh boy. These books are THE BEST (and I'm not just saying that bc it's my bff's uncle)... Nick Mason is a cool guy. He's from the south side of Chicago, and in this Fiction novel you'll feel like you're right there with him as he navigates his time out of prison working for the most feared criminal kingpin who's running the show from behind bars. Exit Strategy is the sequel to The Second Life of Nick Mason, and it's just as good, if not better than the first. If you're into thrilling action, fancy guns, old cars, and romantic drama then these are the books for you!
7. The Woman I Wanted to Be - Diane von Furstenberg
Everyone likes DVF, and this autobiography shares her travels, loves and businesses. She's raw, and gives a insider's perspective on being an American Immigrant working towards the American Dream. She has lived a lavish life, and it's all detailed here. If you're into the fashion industry, this book provides a unique view on the current situation versus the 1970's.
8. Leave Your Mark - Aliza Licht
Continuing with the fashion industry trend... Aliza is the original DKNY PR Girl, and she tells the whole journey of her career in fashion. She tells it like it is, and gives career guidance and advice surrounding leaving a lasting impact in your industry and getting where you want to be. This is a great read for anyone who is dedicated to improve their career or interested in the ins and outs of the NY Fashion world.
9. The Magnolia Story - Chip & Joanna Gaines
Chip and Jojo have done it again. I read the book in two days. TWO DAYS. Probably because it's like they're talking to you as they tell their story. The writing is structured in two different fonts, one for Chip and one for Joanna. They share their journey through their eyes, and their sweet relationship is evident throughout the book. They talk HGTV, flipping homes, marriage, and kids. It's a feel good book all around, and you'll be glad you read it.
10. Present Over Perfect - Shauna Niequist
Shauna Niequist has to be one of my favorite authors. She's so genuine, and she speaks about her faith and religion in general so matter of fact that you can't help but agree. She's an incredible example of a mother, friend and wife, and in this book she shares her journey of saying "no". She elaborates on the benefits of being selective and learning to prioritize so that your life is filled with less attempts to be perfect, and more time being present with those you love. If you like this read Bread and Wine ... that one is my absolute favorite (I just need to learn to cook).
BONUS: Love Does - Bob Goff
Bob is the real real. The man puts his cell phone number at the end of the book so you can call him if you want to chat about life (now that's love!). This book is a compilation of short stories about his journey in faith and love. He shares some amazing adventures he's had, and its a quick and feel good read! Highly recommended.
